Andrew Blance
Innovation Consultant
Waterstons

SESSION OVERVIEW:Like “AI”, the “Metaverse” or “Industry 4.0”, the definition of a “Digital Twin” is woolly and mysterious. There’s a vague understanding it should include data, potentially a 3D model, and ideally, it should twin something from our reality. However, across different sectors and fields what counts as a “digital twin” varies wildly. This talk is about understanding Digital Twins through the lens of data, and creating a rubric to help you answer the question “Is this a Digital Twin?”

We will ground this all in an example built within Azure and Unity. A data modelling backend will be shown, created using a suite of Azure resources. Our front end will consist of a model created in Unity and demonstrated using the Meta Quest 3’s AR functionality. Finally, we will explore how these parts can be expanded within Azure, allowing a Digital Twin to become a base for AI models and decision-making within a business.

Connell Sharp
Senior Software Engineer
Stack Overflow

SESSION OVERVIEW: Deciding which things belong in which part of your system can make or break your architecture. To avoid creating a big ball of mud, we separate concerns and keep things organised. This talk takes us through different kinds of boundaries: What makes a good function? What makes a good class? A good service? We’ll discuss slicing vertically, building separate packages, and the trade-offs of splitting into many git repositories.

Then we’ll dive into the structure of a business problem domain. We’ll take tips from Domain-Driven Design about the types of subdomains we find, domain language, and how we can integrate between different Bounded Contexts.

Finally, we’ll look into the organisational structure of a company. We’ll look at Team Topologies, the types of teams, how they communicate, and how those human communication structures affect your architecture.

This visual presentation that brings these things together and aims to give you a different perspective on the structures we find.

SESSION OVERVIEW: Amazing AI, the answer to everything. Or so everyone would have you believe. But how do you find out how to make it work in the real world? The best way is to just get on and build it. In this session we’ll aim to show how recent technology updates have enabled an agentic interface to deliver a new class of conversational AI. And what better way to demonstrate its effectiveness than making the simple task of ordering a pizza more personal? We will share how AI can be used in a simple yet effective manner to assist customers, drive revenue, and even help prevent waste for retailers.

Matt Whalley
Partner – Architecture, Engineering & DevOps&lt
PA Consulting

SESSION OVERVIEW:

Join Matt as he shares a handful of simple, practical but effective architecture-related ways of working you can use with your teams to improve the outcomes of your software delivery. In this short talk, he’ll outline some of the things that have worked well for him throughout his (nearly) 25 years’ experience of building software and how they might also be able to help you.

Owen Hodge
Product Manager at Headforwards

SESSION OVERVIEW:

In the fast-paced world of technology and agile delivery, teams often struggle to find dedicated time for R&D and addressing persistent technical debt – especially with the constant pressure to deliver the next feature or product iteration. This can leave innovative ideas unexplored and necessary updates pushed to the back burner.
Technical sprints offer developers a structured opportunity to investigate new solutions and technologies that can benefit clients long-term. By designating time for these developer-driven initiatives, teams stay at the cutting edge of technology, keep pace with essential vendor updates, and refine their technical expertise, ensuring quality and relevance.
Join Headforwards Product Manager Owen Hodge as he delves into this empowering approach, where developers have the freedom to select what they work on. Discover how this environment fosters innovation, accelerates personal growth, and supports effective resolution of technical debt.

Roxy Stafford
Programme & Events Manager at Manchester Digital

SESSION OVERVIEW:

Join Manchester Digital and the team from AtkinsRealis Manchester division to discuss their pathways into tech. Perfect for those looking to get into tech the panel will cover career switchers, apprenticeships, non-traditional leadership, and an upcoming hackathon you may be interested in partipating in.
