THank you for helping to save the river food bank
The River, is a beacon of hope in the heart of Manchester transforming the lives of those recovering from domestic abuse for over a decare. They provide safe-spaces, counselling services and a food bank providing good quality essentials for those restarting their homes. However in October 2024 their vital work was at risk as the property they rented to run their vital services was put up for auction by the landlord.
To help save The River Food Bank we asked out tech community to come together to donate and save the property, and Manchester… you didn’t let us down! Thanks to the support of our incredible community we raised over £30,000 to help save the River Food Bank and in December they signed the rights to the property!
Why WE Support The River?
Many residents of Manchester struggle to access basic needs, limiting their engagement with the digital world. This gap impacts their ability to pursue education, job opportunities, and essential services. For many individuals affected, a career in the tech industry can feel out of reach.
At MTF, we recognise that Manchester, as one of the UK’s fastest-growing tech hubs, has a collective responsibility to bridge this digital divide.
Through our Digital and Social Inclusion programme, we work in ways that directly bridge the digital divide (such as facilitating hardware donations and tech speakers in schools), and in ways that are less direct, but have a massive social impact. By ensuring that children and families aren’t going hungry, we can collectively minimise worry and hardship, leaving more room for people to think about their careers and future.
To date, our supporters have helped to donate over 500 food bank items to The River. Now, we need your support again to help this charity to continue their crucial work.
